This healthy breakfast is not only high in fiber, but it’s also delicious. Steel-cut oats are processed less than old-fashioned, quick-cooking oats, so they have the most fiber and protein. Also, one of my favorite ways to increase protein content is to add egg whites – you can’t taste them and they don’t change the texture. Win, win!

Steel Cut Oats Oats Ingredients
- : Usé Bob’s Red Mill Quick-Cooking Steel Cut Oats. If you use regular steel cut oats, you will need to cook it longer.
- Water: Use two cups of water for every cup of oatmeal.
- Maple syrup for sweetener.
- Cinnamon for flavor.
- Egg whites for extra protein. If you are allergic you can skip it.
- Banana: Cut a ripe banana.
- Berries: Two cups of fresh berries, such as blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries
- Nuts: Nuts or nuts will work.
Does oats cut into steel take a long time to cook?
Oats cut into steel take longer to cook than other types of oats. However, quick-firing steel cutting is faster than regular steel cuts. The slow cooker is the perfect way to make them because you can set it and forget it for a couple of hours.
How do you cook oatmeal in a slow cooker?
Put the oatmeal, water, maple syrup and

- Sweetener: Change maple syrup for honey
- Toppings: Top your oatmeal with fresh berries, sliced bananas, a splash of peanut butter, or a tablespoon of chia seeds.
