The best slow cooker chicken legs! An easy 2-ingredient crockpot recipe for super tender, tasty and juicy chicken thighs.

These slow pot chicken legs or chicken thighs are perfect for a busy weekday dinner, a delicious meal that your whole family will love. All you need is chicken feet, BBQ sauce, salt and pepper, and a slow cooker or crockpot. And a few minutes of preparation time.

And all you have to do is throw your legs away with the sauce, let the pot work its magic and then finish the food under the grill, an optional step but, at least for me, important, I love it when the drumsticks are slightly charred and sticky.

Simple ingredients

  • Chicken feet also known as chicken thighs. You will need 2 per person or cook as many as needed. Eight pieces will weigh around 3 lbs/1.4 kg.
  • BBQ sauce: Your favorite brand

  • Spices: Fine sea salt or Kosher salt and ground black pepper. Alternatively, you can use another spice massage or barbecue mix to season the meat. Or use a mixture of your favorite spices; You can combine salt and pepper with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, curry, Cajun seasoning, Italian seasoning or other dried herbs.

How to cook chicken legs in slow cooker?

It only takes a few simple steps to make this slow cooker chicken recipe!

  • Season: Dry meat with tea towels. Place the drumsticks in the pot. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and rub them well (1). Pour the barbecue sauce over it and mix to cover the legs all over (2).
  • Slowly cook chicken thighs for 3 1/4 – 4 hours at HIGH or 5-6 hours at LOW or until very tender (3).
  • Roast on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Transfer the slow cooker chicken legs to the tweezers prepared baking sheet.
  • Brush with a little of the reserved sauce (4).
  • Roast for 1-2 minutes until the skin is sticky and very slightly charred in some places. Flip the parts and brush them with sauce on the other side. Roast them for another 1-2. Keep an eye on drumsticks to make sure the skin doesn’t burn (5).
  • Garnish: You can sprinkle them with chopped parsley or cilantro, green onions, toasted sesame seeds or red chili flakes before serving.

Expert advice

  • Never wash poultry. According to the USDA, washing will spread bacteria on your sink and work surface. Bacteria that may be on the skin will only be destroyed during the cooking process.
  • It is not necessary to place the legs in the slow cooker in a single perfect layer, but you should not clutter the pot either. It’s okay if the portions overlap slightly.
  • Use the same recipe to cook other parts such as thighs, quarters or wings. Depending on the cut you use, the cooking time may vary slightly.
  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of sriracha or some cayenne pepper to BBQ sauce to make the legs spicy
