Budget Recipe Books to Cut Costs & Save at the Shops – Skint Dad

Trying to find a decent budget recipe, which is still nutritious and delicious, can be difficult at times, but don’t worry, there’s plenty here!
Whether you like to cook or not, creating a meal from scratch is much cheaper than a prepared meal or a jar of something from the supermarket.
However, the problem for me is knowing enough recipes to make. Don’t get me wrong, but there are so many times I can make a spag bol or chilli with meat before my family starts moaning. We have some family favorites, but every now and then I like to mix things up to get a little more variety in what we eat.
The problem is that many recipes and cookbooks are designed for the better-off. Even Jamie Oliver and his money-saving TV show and his extra book are very nice, but £20 for a joint of meat? That would make us for a week, not a meal!
Luckily, there are plenty of budget cookbooks where I can find as many cheap meals as I want, so I can’t worry about buying premium ingredients or cuts of meat and still having a decent dinner for my family.
Cheap and inexpensive recipe ideas
A girl named
Jack
If you haven’t heard of Jack Monroe before, now you have! She can make a meal out of thin air, with basic ingredients and still make it nutritious and delicious. One of our favorites of their recipes are the cumin and carrot bean falafels that cost only 10p per serving and are great.

We own this book and, I have to say, it’s great to get a little inspiration when we don’t have the same old thing. It is also available as an e-book.
I’ve heard VERY good things about this book! Based on the BBC TV series, this budget cookbook
shows that you create meals for your family, without overspending at the supermarket.
