I really love topping this with Tessemae’s barbecue sauce. It’s paleo/Whole30 friendly, but it also tastes amazing! I hate when barbecue spices are too sweet or too smoky.

Do you need
to use pork loins for this? I prefer to use pork
loins in this recipe because they tend to be less fatty and very lean. You can also use a pig’s shoulder or a pork butt if you prefer!
Can crumbled pork be made in the instant pot?
Yes, you totally can! This shredded pork is much better if you make it in the cooking pot, but you can make it in the instant pot. Follow all instructions for marinating. When you are ready to cook, get an instant pot for sealing, pressure cooking for 18 minutes.
When you finish the instant pot, allow the pressure to be released naturally for at least 15 minutes, then release it quickly. It’s best if you can naturally release the pressure completely because it keeps pork super tender.
Need to use barbecue sauce in this recipe?
You could leave barbecue sauce out of this recipe, but I love adding Tessemae’s BBQ sauce to give it extra flavor and keep it moist.
Just be careful with the barbecue sauce you use because many of them have tons of added sugars and original ingredients.
Why is my clay pot shredded pork hard?
Your shredded pork can be difficult because you didn’t cook it long enough. The pig really needs 6 to 8 hours (or more depending on the cut) to make sure the meat decomposes. Try to keep your slow cooker instead of the high setting to avoid getting hard shredded pork.
How to keep shredded pork moist in a clay pot?
To keep shredded pork moist in the cooking pot, make sure there is enough liquid and avoid using the high heat setting. You can always add more liquid and the pork will absorb the juices. Beef or chicken broth will add the most flavor.
