Step 1: Choose a Plan Design
Below are descriptions of the plan designs offered by the state group health insurance program. plan designs differ in monthly premiums, cost sharing, and whether there is out-of-network coverage. to determine which plan layout may be best for you:

The health plan has a lower deductible and lower out-of-pocket limits, but a higher monthly premium. This plan design only covers out-of-network benefits for emergency and urgent care services.
high deductible health plan (hdhp)
hdhp has a higher deductible and higher out-of-pocket limits, but the lowest monthly premium. This plan design only covers out-of-network benefits for emergency and urgent care services.
hdhp is combined with a health savings account (hsa) to help you save for out-of-pocket medical, dental and vision expenses. The UW System contributes to your HSA (if eligible). You can also contribute to your HSA on a pre-tax basis with your paycheck. changes to your contributions are allowed at any time.

access the health plan
access health plan provides freedom of choice for doctors and hospitals across the country; however, there are lower costs when you use in-network providers (available nationwide). In exchange for greater flexibility in doctors, hospitals and providers, the monthly premium is higher than that of the health plan and hdhp.
access the high deductible health plan (hdhp)
hdhp access provides freedom of choice for physicians and hospitals across the country; however, there are lower costs when you use in-network providers (available nationwide). this plan design has a higher deductible and higher out-of-pocket limits than the access health plan. In exchange for increased cost sharing, this plan is designed to offer a lower monthly premium than the access health plan.

note: access health plan and access hdhp are administered by a health insurance company. if you choose any of these plan designs, go to step 4. if you choose the health or hdhp plan, go to step 2.
Step 2: Choose a geographic coverage area
To help you select a provider that lists the providers and hospitals in the county where you would like to receive services, use the following health plan search tools.
This is an important step as the health plan and hdhp only cover out-of-network benefits for emergency services and urgent care.
Step 3: Choose a health insurance company
Review the quality ratings of health insurers for information on access to specific physicians, referral and prior authorization requirements, and other plan features (for example: member portal, 24-hour nurse line). hours, telehealth app).
Step 4: Decide if you need uniform dental benefits
All health insurance plans provide medical and pharmacy benefits (with no additional premium). Flat Dental Benefits provide preventive dental services and can be added to your health insurance plan for a minimal cost. review the uniform dental benefits to determine if you want to add this to your health insurance plan.
step 5: sign up
sign up using the myuw portal. You will receive a confirmation statement by email 24-48 hours after making your choices on the myuw portal. Please review your confirmation statement carefully and contact your institution’s benefits contact as soon as possible if you need to update your elections.
