how to get your oregon insurance license

- Upon completion of the online course, the applicant must receive a score of 70% or higher on the certification exam in order to be issued a certificate.
- Applicants must bring the original Certificate of Completion with them to the test center on test day.
- Certificates are valid for one year.

- take notes on what you study. Putting the information in writing helps you memorize it and is also a great business practice. underline or highlight key ideas that will help with a later review.
- Discuss new terms or concepts as often as possible with your colleagues. this will test your understanding and reinforce ideas.
- Your studies will be most effective if you study frequently, for periods of about 55 to 60 minutes. concentration tends to wander when you study for long periods of time.

- Only non-programmable calculators that are silent, battery-powered, do not have paper-tape printing capabilities, and do not have a keyboard containing the alphabet will be permitted at the test site.
- All personal belongings of candidates, with the exception of fitted jackets or sweatshirts, must be placed in the secure storage provided at each site before entering the exam room. personal belongings include, but are not limited to, the following items:
- electronic devices of any kind, including cell/mobile phones, recording devices, electronic watches, cameras, pagers, laptops, tablets (p. ipads), music players (e.g. ipods), smart watches, radios, or electronic games.
- bulky or loose clothing or coats that could be used to conceal recording devices or notes, including overcoats, shawls, hooded clothing, heavy jackets, or coats.
- hats or headgear not worn for religious purposes or as religious attire, including hats, baseball caps, or visors.
- other personal items, including purses, notebooks, reading or reference material, briefcases, backpacks, wallets, pens, pencils, other writing devices, food, drinks, and good luck items.
- People accompanying an exam candidate may not wait in the exam center, inside the building, or on the building property. this applies to guests of any nature, including drivers, children, friends, family, colleagues or instructors.
- No smoking, eating, or drinking is allowed in the test center.
- During the registration process, all candidates will be asked if they possess any prohibited items. Candidates may also be asked to empty their pockets and give them to the supervisor to ensure they are empty. the proctor may also ask candidates to roll up the ends of their sleeves and the bottoms of their pants to ensure no notes or recording devices are hidden there.
- Supervisors will also carefully inspect eyeglass frames, tacks, or any other clothing that may be used to house a recording device. Proctors will request to inspect such items in candidates’ pockets.
- If prohibited items are found during check-in, candidates must place them in the secure storage provided or return these items to their vehicle. psi will not be responsible for the security of personal belongings or prohibited items.
- Any candidate who possesses prohibited items in the exam room must immediately invalidate their test results, and psi must notify the exam sponsor of the fact.
- Any candidate seen giving or receiving assistance in an exam, encountering unauthorized materials, or violating security regulations will be asked to surrender all exam materials and leave the test center. all such cases will be reported to the exam sponsor.
- copying or communicating exam content is a violation of a candidate’s contract with psi and of federal and state law. Either may result in disqualification of exam results and may lead to legal action.
- Once candidates have been seated and the exam begins, they may leave the exam room only to use the restroom and only after obtaining permission from the proctor. the candidate will not receive additional time to complete the exam.
- on paper, an official score report will be printed at the test site.
- If you pass, you will immediately receive a passing score report.
- If you do not pass, you will receive a failing score report with a diagnostic report indicating your strengths and weaknesses by exam type.

- While you are at the test center, have your fingerprints taken electronically and pay the fingerprinting fee.
- fingerprinting fee includes state processing fee and psi processing fee (fee must be paid by visa, mastercard, company check, money order or cashier’s check only, no personal checks).
- Oregon producer fingerprints can only be taken at an oregon psi testing site.
- Fingerprints made in the past or for an employer cannot be shared or used to obtain an insurance license.

the process for obtaining an oregon insurance producer license is as follows. (note: applicant must first successfully complete all pre-licensing education requirements listed above):

apply online at nipr.com. this should be done shortly after passing the exam.
it will be assigned an npn. This unique identifier is assigned through the license application process and is used to track individuals and business entities nationwide. many states use the npn to replace a producer’s license number.

How is the exam scored?
To receive a passing grade on each exam, you must answer 70% of the available questions correctly. your score will be given to you immediately after the completion of the exam. The following summary describes the score reporting process:

After completing my pre-licensing, how should I prepare for test day?

The following suggestions will help you prepare for your exam.
test day
On the day of the exam, you must arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. this additional time is for registration, identification, and familiarization with the testing process. if you are late, you may not be admitted to the test site and you will forfeit your test registration fee.
ID required
You must provide 2 forms of identification. one must be a valid form of government-issued identification (driver’s license, state ID, passport, military ID) bearing your signature and photograph. a provisional state driver’s license card or provisional state identification card is also acceptable. the second ID must have your signature and legal name preprinted. all identification provided must match the name on the registration form.
