21 Cast Iron Dutch Oven Recipes to Devour Tonight – Feast and Farm

Lodge cooking recipes

Dutch cast iron oven recipes are a great way to cook something low and slow for the tender drop of bone meats, to steam a crusty loaf of bread to perfection or toss a paste for a meal from a pan. Discover 21 of my favorite ways to put this cast iron workhorse to good use in your own kitchen.

Cooking

beef or pork in your Dutch cast iron oven

is especially good because it lends itself to longer, slower cooking times, meaning you can use harder (and more affordable) cuts of meat and still get a great end product. I always recommend checking your beef or pork every hour to make sure you still have enough liquid to steam inside.

Dutch cast iron chicken

oven recipes

“Oh, I love bone-in dry chicken!” That’s what nobody says. Ever.

Make juicy chicken in your cast iron Dutch oven and use cuts you won’t normally choose, like thigh meat, it holds well because it has a higher fat content and always makes a more juicer end product. Leaving the bones and skin also helps your chicken come out tasty and juicy.

Side dishes made for your Dutch cast iron oven

I love the golden cheese chunks that form on the edge of my favorite stews, or the crispy chunks of potatoes cooked in cast iron. You just can’t replicate it in any other baking tool.

That’s why these side dishes are so much fun: get some cheese potatoes or try the new trend of baking bread in your Dutch cast iron oven. The steam makes a crust crunchy and the dough couldn’t be easier to assemble.

Cast Iron Dutch There may be nothing easier than throwing some good ingredients into a Dutch oven and watching them come alive as a soup or soothing stew. Canned ingredients often work well here and are also great for overfire meals.
