It is a sweet paste/dough prepared from powdered almonds and sugar. There are many variants for this recipe, you can even prepare this with ground cashews, but for this version we have prepared marzipan with almond powder and yes, this recipe is 100% egg free. In addition, it is very quick and easy to prepare.

Marzipan candies can be enjoyed as they are or you can even use them for your cake/cookie dressings, or you can even top your cakes with it. Marzipan chocolates are equally popular and it is very easy to make marzipan chocolates: mold these marzipan into balls and dip them in melted chocolate.

What are the ingredients for marzipan?

Traditionally, marzipan

is prepared with these ingredients

:

almonds/cashew powder egg whitessugar/honey rose water or almond extract (for taste)

But, instead, we have used:

Step by step recipe

For marzipan dough/paste

  • Soak the almonds in hot water for 30 minutes. Drain excess water, peel the skin and pat dry. Once dry, grind them in a blender.
  • In a bowl

  • , sift and combine the almond powder and icing sugar in a bowl.

  • Gradually add water and knead until you get a rigid and soft dough. Add 1/4 teaspoon of water each time and keep mixing and kneading.
  • Do not mix the dough too much, as the almonds will release oil and the dough will become sticky.
  • Once done, cover it with adhesive wrap and keep it refrigerated until you need it.
  • Alternatively, you can even start making marzipan candies right away.

For marzipan candies

  • Divide the dough into equal portions, this will depend on how many colors and flavors you are using. We are preparing 3 varieties: red strawberry candies, green candies and chocolate candies.
  • Add the colors of your choice and mix until the color combines well. As mentioned above, we are using red and green food dyes. For chocolate marzipan candies, we have added cocoa powder to our dough, the amount of cocoa powder will depend on how much intense chocolate flavor you prefer more than the amount of your almond paste dough.
  • Sprinkle the silicone molds with icing sugar and fill each section of the mold with a small portion of the dough.
  • Press gently and refrigerate the mold for 10-15 minutes.
  • You can even shape these sweets with your hands.
  • After 10-15 minutes, demold the sweets from the silicone molds and let them dry at room temperature for 3-4 hours. Do not cover.
  • After 3-4 hours, store in an airtight container. They will keep well at room temperature for a week, then transfer to the refrigerator for another 10-12 days.
