If you ask Lincoln what he wants for dinner, 10/10 times he will say “burgers.” (ICYWW, Gwen will say “pasta” and Ham will say “I don’t know.” Guess which kid is my quietest when it comes to dinner? HA! ;))
That said, I make
burgers for dinner, and while I’ve mastered pan-fried burgers (we don’t roast a ton), I’m afraid to make them. It’s a mess! Between the five of us we went through at least seven burgers and by the time they’re all cooked, the stove and counters are slippery with splattered grease and I have a giant cast iron skillet to let cool before scrubbing my hands. Which, let’s face it, isn’t going to happen until the next day.
FRIENDS, THERE’S AN EASIER WAY! BAKED BURGERS – WHEE
!!!!
ahem. That is, baked cheeseburgers have completely changed the night of burgers in our house! Not only is there ZERO clutter, but I have my hands free during the 20 minutes it takes to bake to prepare a side dish and pick up burger toppings. Also, my whole family likes these baked burgers more than fried ones, which is saying a lot because we really love our fried burgers.
Baked burgers The first time I made
baked burgers
I anticipated them coming out of the oven soaked and gray, but that’s not the case at all. These burgers are super tender and juicy, and again, HANDS OFF. No need to flip the burgers, there is no cooking spray, just place them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil and parchment paper and then send them to the oven. Good bye. Don’t call me, I’ll call you.
I
like to season ground beef burgers with a mix of easy homemade seasonings with ingredients I bet you already have on hand. I’ll share the mix below, but know that you can use whatever you want instead.
How long does it take for burgers to cook in the oven?
I use 2 pounds of ground beef to create eight burgers, so each burger is 1/4 pound. That said, eight 1/4lb burgers only take 20 minutes to reach 160 degrees in a 375-degree oven. This is a real 30-minute meal: 10 minutes to season and then shape the burgers and 20 minutes to cook.
What kind of
ground beef to use
True, fat = flavor, but I prefer to use lean ground beef for baked burgers. Hamburgers don’t shrink and there’s less clutter. There’s really no mess, as I mentioned! I tried these burgers with ground beef 90/10 and 97/3 and preferred 90/10. Both fat blends came out extremely tender and juicy, but the 90/10 had a little more flavor.
If you decide to go with a fattier ground beef, I would place the burgers on a wire rack on the baking sheet so they don’t stay fat.
Our favorite
ingredients
As I said, I like to spend the 20 minutes it takes for burgers to bake to make a side dish, usually a fresh and healthy salad, although these fries and sweet potato fries are quite irresistible, and prepare the ingredients of the burger. Here are our favorite ingredients
:
- Sautéed garlic and butter mushrooms Bacon
- baked white onion sliced or red onion
- Fresh tomato
- Fresh lettuce
- Pickles
- Ketchup
- Mustard mayonnaise (TRY IT!) Let’s
face
it,
gluten-free buns are usually missing from the soft and soft apartment, but I have two tricks to make them more appetizing:
- Toast the sliced buns under the grill until golden brown and tender. Top with a cheeseburger and dressings and then eat immediately.
- Place a baked burger on the bun, then wrap it in aluminum foil and place it inside the hot oven for a few minutes. It softens them! We do this with my gluten-free bread and the regular burger buns that the kids and Ben eat. What a game changer!
Or you can always wrap burgers from the oven in iceberg lettuce for a low-carb burger unless it’s low carb. It’s actually really good. 🙂
How to cook burgers in the oven
Step 1: Season the
meat
Start by adding ground beef to a large bowl with my easy mix of burger seasonings, or you can use whatever your favorite mix is. Here’s what’s in my mix:
Dried
- chopped onion Dried chopped
- garlic
- Fennel seeds that have been crushed (I place them inside a small bag and then crush them with a meat mallet).
- Salt
- Black pepper
Mix the meat and seasonings with your hands until combined.
Step 2: Shape the mixture into empanadas
Divide the seasoned meat mixture into quarters and then each quarter in half. Use your hands to shape 8 burgers and then place them on a tray that has been lined with aluminum foil and a piece of parchment paper. Parchment paper helps prevent splashes, in my experience.
Step 3: Bake the burgers and then cover with cheese Bake the burgers
for 20-25 minutes, or until they register 160 degrees with a meat thermometer, then place slices of American cheese (Or whatever you like, cheddar cheese is great too!) On top of each burger and slide the pan back into the oven until it melts, just a minute or so.
Step 4: Toast hamburger buns and then add toppings
That’s all he wrote! Transfer the cheeseburgers to toasted burger buns, or try that aluminum foil-wrapped heating trick I mentioned (DROOL), then cover with all the accessories and dig in. I hope you like these EASY, tender and totally delicious baked cheeseburgers, enjoy!
