Add all remaining ingredients to the slow cooker. Place the lid on top and simmer for 6 to 8 hours.

At the end of the cooking time, check that the pork is cooked: if you have a meat thermometer, the internal temperature should be 75 ° C.
Do you need to add liquid to slow pot pork shoulder?
No, you can put the pork shoulder in the slow cooker without any liquid. During the slow cooking time, pork will naturally release its own juices.
For this recipe, I
like to add the broth; this helps ensure that the pork shoulder is soft and tender, and I can use the liquid at the end to make a sauce/sauce to serve over the pork.
How to make a sauce or sauce from
juices

You have two options for making sauce or
sauce with the liquid at the end of the cooking time.
When the pork is ready, carefully remove the joint and let it rest (or put it in the oven to make pork crackling, see below the steps to do so).
Add
some granules of sauce (or cornmeal) Leave the rest of the sauce in the slow cooker and
remove any fat; Remove the bay leaves
.
Add some granules of salsa or cornmeal to thicken it. Return
the
sliced pork to the slow cooker and dip
it in the sauce.
The downside to this method is that you’ll still have some excess pork fat in the sauce, which could make it a little greasy, and also, if you’re crunching the pork fat crust, the sauce could get too cold before it’s time to serve.

As a side note, I used this method, and it wasn’t too greasy and tasted amazing! No additional seasoning was required.
Strain the liquid and simmer in a pan The other option, and the
most common method, is to remove the bay leaves, mix the liquid with a blender and strain the liquid into a saucepan
.
Add some cornmeal (or sauce granules) to thicken it, and simmer while you wait for the crunchy crunch or pork to rest before cutting.
After a quick taste taste, you may want to add a little more seasoning to the sauce
. Can you put raw pork in a slow cooker? Yes, you can
put raw pork directly in a slow cooker
. It rarely seals or separately browns the meat before adding it to the slow cooker, mainly due to the extra time it creates and the washing it creates.
My main exceptions to this are when I slowly cook sausages (like in my slow cooker sausage casserole recipe) and slow cooker dumplings
. How to get crispy pork cracklings
Understandably, the fat from the pork shoulder joint will not crunch in the slow cooker to make crispy pork rinds
.
But the good news is that you can still get a crispy pork crackling by adding an extra step.
Approximately 10 to 15 minutes before the end of the slow cooker time, preheat the oven
to 220 ° C / Mark 9 gas
.
You can also do this step in an air fryer: preheat for 3 minutes.
When the pork shoulder is cooked in the slow cooker, you can put the whole joint in the oven (or air fryer) or carefully remove the grease from the joint and crispy by Yes alone.
I prefer to cook the cracked pork on its own, leaving the loose joint covered in aluminum foil to rest before cutting it.
If you choose to place the entire pork joint in the oven, loosely cover the meat part of the joint with aluminum foil so that it does not dry out.
Either way, you need to mark the fatty crust with a sharp knife, brush the oil over it and rub salt all over.
Place in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until it has bubbled and is crispy.
In an air fryer, it should take about 20 minutes.
