Give it to me! I’m a big fan of soft buns stacked with juicy fillings, from Sloppy Joes to great Pastrami sandwiches and big juicy burgers.

It looks like sandwich week. No one told you? Do not worry. No one told me either! 😂
Actually, I could have shuffled the publication schedule. But I don’t want to. I’ve been trying to share this recipe for years, and it’s finally here and I’m not holding it any longer!!!

This kind of food is all me. The type of food “get into it, put it in all your hands/mouth”. The kind that these are gatherings, food that is meant to be shared, food that is meant to be consumed in informal settings.
And also food that tastes a million dollars and yet is so simple to make. This recipe is about two things:
-
That pork. That pig, that pig. Generously seasoned with a massage full of flavor, cooked until super tender but not soft. You only need an hour of marinating time because there is a lot of flavor infusion during slow cooking. Either in the slow cooker or in the oven. But if you are pressed for time, you can use a pressure cooker, it works great!
-
BBQ sauce! Make it from scratch as I do, or use the purchased store and dress it up by mixing it with the pork juices. Either way, adding pork juices really takes the sauce to the next level. My preference is to make the sauce separately using some, but not all, pork juices. I’ve done a “self-taught” version before by putting all the ingredients of the BBQ sauce with the pork, but I found that the sauce tastes too much like pork.
A quick classic coleslaw*, some golden buns, then put it all on the table and let everyone serve themselves.

* In case you or your hips are anti-mayonnaise, try this cabbage salad without Mayo (it’s very, very good!) or a creamy yogurt cabbage salad dressing (also very, very good!)
