How to make stewed pork tails step by step

This is definitely one of the easiest recipes on my blog. Start with thawing pigtails. You can do it in the fridge overnight or just on the counter for a few hours.

Chop the celery and onions and place them in the pot. Add the jalapeños, chopped garlic and seasonings.

Add clean pigtails. Make sure there is no hair or any other dirt sticking out. Cover all ingredients with water and bring to a boil.

While

pork

is often referred to as a “white meat,” a pig’s tail tastes more similar to dark meat chicken leg or chicken thigh meat… It is deliciously rich and fatty, but without being too greasy or heavy.

The tails have a thick cartilage and a series of vertebrae surrounded by soft, tender flesh. And the texture of cooked tails is similar to a pig or beef neck bone, or a chicken thigh. So the pork tails in this stew are super meaty and tasty!

Where to

buy

You can buy fresh or frozen pigtails from a local butcher. Or you can check if they are available at a nearby supermarket chain.

They’re also easy to buy frozen from online retailers, but shipped queues tend to be a bit more expensive due to shipping costs.

Slow cooker

Side dishes

I like to make this pork tails recipe and serve it over mashed potatoes or white rice. You can easily enjoy the colas by themselves, just add some hot sauce and cut fresh vegetables with it. At least that’s how I’d like to eat it.

You can also make roasted vegetables or roast corn on the cob. Or make scalloped potatoes or a sweet potato casserole.

Leftovers

Store pork tails by braising leftovers in the fridge for up to 6 days. Ideally, keep it in the airtight container, but if you don’t have one or just don’t want to wash extra dishes, you can store it totally in the original pot. Simply cover it with the lid and store it in the fridge.

Reheat in the stove pot until it is very hot or in the container for a couple of minutes in the microwave without the lid on.
