It took me several years to vary this when it came to pork in the slow cooker. After all, you have a shredded pork shoulder for pork.
But while the shredded pork was amazing for a Friday night, I wanted something that was just as simple for Sunday lunch.
And our slow cooker pork leg set was born. It was the perfect Sunday meal and made the best sauce ever.
Then my next challenge happened. I wanted to achieve the same results as our slow cooker pork leg, but with a pork shoulder. And instead of leaving it to turn into shredded pork, we’d take it out soon enough that we can cut it like a roast pork.

Can you cook pork shoulder in slow cooker?
Yes, you can. Pork shoulders are fantastic for cooking in the slow cooker. They are perfectly tender when cooked slowly and will have a hard time not coming back for seconds.
Do I need to add liquid to slow cook pork shoulder?
No, you
don’t need to add liquid to a slow cooker for a pork shoulder, but you may want to.
If I’m cooking a pork shoulder to make shredded pork, I won’t add liquid. It generates its own fats so it will never dry out and then, once cooked, you will suffocate it with barbecue sauce.
But if you want to make a slow cooker pork shoulder roast, adding liquid can be a great way to create your future sauce or a good pork sauce.

isn’t as hard as some other meats, the slow cooker makes pork shoulder so tender that you’ll never want to cook it in a different way again.

Pork Shoulder Recipe Ingredients

Pork – We use a 1.9kg/4lb boneless pork shoulder. You can go bigger or smaller depending on who you’re feeding.
Apples – Pork and apple go perfectly together. I recommend cutting some apples and cooking the apples with the pork. I used pink lady’s as I love those apples, but you can use any.
Onion and garlic – Then, to add extra flavor to your slow cooker, I recommend some onion and garlic. They are also fantastic for their pork shoulder sauce that we are going to make after the pork has been cooked.
Cider – So instead of cooking with some broth, I recommend a can of cider. This works as a base for your sauce, but also adds extra flavor to your shoulder roast.
Mustard – I also recommend suffocating your pork shoulder in mustard before it cooks and then the mustard will add great flavor to the pork while cooking.
Seasoning – Then, to season your slow-cooker pork shoulder, I recommend salt, pepper, thyme, and parsley.

How to cook pork shoulder in a slow cooker?

- Sautéed. I recommend you start by sautéing your onion with extra virgin olive oil and then press cancel and sauté your garlic.
- Slice. Next, cut the apples (no peeling them) and add them to the slow cooker. Pour the cider and stir.
- punctuation. Then mark your pork shoulder and season well with your seasonings and then rub it with mustard.
- Cook. Load your pork shoulder in the slow cooker and then cook slowly over high heat for 4 hours or over low heat for 7 hours.
- Mix. After moving the pig shoulder to rest before cutting, take out your hand blender. Then mix the ingredients of the slow cooker until smooth. Now you have a delicious pork, apple and cider sauce to serve with your pork.
- serve. Once the pork shoulder has rested (about 10 minutes) cut into slices and then serve with your pork sauce sauce.

How long does it take for the pork shoulder to cook in a slow cooker?
The roast pork shoulder dinner we are doing takes ONLY 4 hours on high or 7 hours on low.
Although if you want to make shredded pork with your pork shoulder, add an extra 1 hour for it to crumble.
Can pig shoulder be frozen?
Yes, you can freeze pork shoulder. You can freeze it as you buy it and save it for future slow cooker meals. We did this a lot when I was in a special agreement. Although defrost it before cooking it in the slow cooker.
Secondly, you can also freeze the cold-cooked pork shoulder and save it for another day.
