14 Easy Meals Kids Can Make! – Pint-sized Treasures

Recipes for 12 year olds to cook

These easy meals are perfect for kids to make!

Did you know that children can cook?

Yes, they can. And they should!

Letting your kids mess up in the kitchen is an amazing learning experience for them.

Cooking for themselves is a life skill they need to learn fast.

And most kids love to cook or bake once they learn about ten recipes!

“Mom, do you like cooking or cleaning better?” my eight-year-old daughter asked.

“I don’t know,” I smiled. “I guess I like some things about cooking and some things about cleaning.”

“Well, I like to cook better. It’s fun!” he replied with a chuckle.

Seriously, all my kids get involved with cooking.

The other day, I was making an amazing peanut butter cookie recipe and I could barely get my hands on the cookie dough because three other pairs were busy diving.

Even the two-year-old was rolling cookie dough!

I didn’t ask them or tell them I was baking.

I didn’t even have to tell my three-, four- or six-year-old son what to do.

They had seen me bake so many cookies…

That’s the BEST way kids learn to cook!

Come to mom or dad cooking and can’t wait to try to create some recipes themselves!

Depending on your child’s age, you may or may not need supervision for these prescriptions.

I have learned that a 10- to 12-year-old can prepare many dishes on his own, but younger children need hands-on supervision and direction.

Even if my older children are cooking, I make sure I’m always around to answer questions or check on progress.

Letting the kids cook has been a fun adventure for our family.

Children feel needy and love the fact that they have learned a skill that many adults are still working on!

It’s important for your children to learn to cook!

Don’t be shy about letting your kids cook!

We won’t always be there when our kids need a hot, delicious meal at the table.

It’s better for them to learn and make mistakes now, than to take a crash cooking course when they’re married or in college!

There are too many advantages to teaching your children to cook.

But, always make sure an adult is home when cooking.

Some precautions about letting

children cook

Before you let your kids take over the kitchen, here are some safety precautions!

  • Avoid frying unless you are continuously supervising
  • Teach

  • your children about proper kitchen sanitary rules. Teach
  • them the

  • danger of fires in the kitchen and how to extinguish them

I teach these safety tips to my kids before cooking or baking.

I also re-emphasize them every time we cook or bake together.
