Ingredient notes and substitutions

  • Canned soup alternative: While shopping at the store is more convenient, you can use homemade chicken soup cream if you prefer.
  • Leave the chicken whole: Because meat becomes so tender when cooked slowly, it must crumble on its own. You may need to stir everything before adding the Bisquick meatballs to break the meat. Or feel free to cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces before starting the recipe.
  • Add vegetables: Bisquick chicken and dumplings would also taste great with potatoes, carrots, and celery. Just add them at the beginning with everything else. If you want to use frozen peas or corn, mix them just before adding the Bisquick dumplings.

Storage and reheating

Keep leftover chicken and Bisquick meatballs in the refrigerator in a sealed container

While this food is safe to eat for up to 4 days, I would recommend eating it within a day or two. Otherwise, the dumplings will soak and begin to crumble.

Reheat in the microwave or on the stove until heated, adding a splash of broth as needed if it is too thick.
