I’ve always loved
slow cooker
. It’s an easy way to make great-tasting food without having to put in a lot of effort, even if you don’t have any confidence in yourself as a cook, you can happily enjoy slow cook meals like this!
A slow cooker is a great value piece of kitchen equipment. I have one that’s almost 20 years old and works just as well as when I was new. If you are looking to buy a new slow cooker, there are many on the market and to suit any budget. Many supermarkets make their own brand, and you can also find many great deals on Amazon (check out below).
Once you’ve started experimenting with a slow cooker, you’ll discover how versatile it is. The first thing I cooked in mine was a stew of meat and beer, and it was so good that it was all I did for years! Here is my recipe for meat stew and beer.
Can it be frozen?
This slow cook garlic and honey chicken is a great frozen meal! Simply cook as directed, place leftovers in an airtight, freezer-safe container, and freeze for up to 3 months. Be sure to thaw this well before reheating it.
You can also prepare this meal by mixing the sauce and chicken, and placing the raw ingredients together in a ziplock bag or freezer-safe airtight container, then when you’re ready to cook, simply thaw and then place it in the slow cooker to cook for the times indicated in the recipe.
What to serve with garlic chicken and slow cook honey:
This is a great dish that can work with a wide variety of combinations. I love this served with:
- fried rice with egg cauliflower
- or white rice basmati
- rice
- sautéed
- noodles
- wrap with thinly sliced cucumber, carrot and grated lettuce in julienne / grated vegetables such as carrot, cucumber and
- red cabbage.
- Try drizzling some spicy sriracha sauce on this, it’s delicious!

Can I make this recipe in a regular oven?
This recipe also works well in the oven! Simply preheat the oven to 190 ° C, place all the ingredients in a saucepan with a lid and bake for 45 minutes until the chicken is tender.
How does this recipe work in Slimming World?
The best thing about this meal made in the slow cooker is that there is no need for additional oil. The only syns are in honey (5 syns for 2 tablespoons) and sesame seeds (3 syns for 1 tablespoon)
