Slow Cooker Orange Chicken – Slow Cooking Perfected
This amazing slow cook orange chicken is super easy and will please anyone who loves citrus flavors.
By the time this dish is ready, the chicken will be tender and topped with a delicious citrus sauce. You can eat the chicken alone, but I recommend that you cook some rice to accompany it.
You should be able to feed about four people with this delicious orange chicken. I highly recommend making a side dish to accompany it. You can easily double or triple the recipe if you need to feed a crowd.
If you prefer a chicken dish with crispy orange, then it is better to prepare and cook it with the slow cooker. By the time you’re done covering and frying the chicken, you can also prepare the sauce which usually takes only a few minutes.
Be sure to save leftovers, as they are great for lunch the next day. Simply cover the food and store it in the refrigerator until needed. Leftovers will last about three days in the refrigerator. You can also freeze this dish, but keep in mind that once you reheat the food, the chicken can overcook.

Changing the type of BBQ sauce will result in some very different flavors. For example, if you’re feeling experimental, try using a smoked BBQ sauce or one with added honey.
This dish is already on the sweet side, so I don’t recommend adding more sugar to the sauce. If you’re worried it’s not sweet enough, you can add a tablespoon or two of honey.
You can use chicken thigh for this recipe if you don’t have chicken breasts. Other cuts of chicken, such as thighs, will also work very well with the flavors of the sauce.
What to serve with orange chicken
Several different side dishes will work very well with this dish. Below are some of my favorites.
As you can see from the photos, I love serving this chicken with some freshly cooked steamed rice. For something a little healthier, you can try making cauliflower rice instead.
Most noodles will work great with orange chicken flavors. I love soba noodles, but others like Hokkien noodles, egg noodles or even udon noodles will work very well.
You may also want to have this dish with some sautéed vegetables. I love cooking a combination of broccoli, peas, bell peppers, bok choy and onions. It is a delicious mix of vegetables and works great with this chicken.
