Why you should try this recipe
just love this tasty recipe and I’m sure once you try it you’ll see why. But here are three reasons why I think this may become your next meal:
- Summer tastes without the summer heat. There is no need to heat the house this summer because the slow cooker does not create as much heat as an oven. This is a perfect meal for hot summer days when you want to conserve your heating energy.
- You can’t go wrong with convenience. Nothing says “convenient dinner” like placing some ingredients in a slow cooker and walking away until dinner time. As simple as putting a few things together, this dish really can’t be much easier.
- The recipe is always a pleasure for the crowd. Make enough just for the family or add a little extra to accommodate dinner guests and this meal is sure to be well received either way. It’s rare that we have leftovers, but even leftovers taste amazing the next day!

Place the chicken in a slow cooker
In a separate bowl, mix the barbecue sauce, Italian dressing, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce until well mixed. Pour the sauce over the chicken.
While it may seem like it’s almost TOO much sauce, it really is a perfect amount after crushing the chicken, trust me.
Cover and cook over high heat 3-4 hours or low 6-8 hours.
About 30 minutes before serving, crush the chicken. You can do this inside the slow cooker or by taking out the separate pieces of chicken and on a plate, crumbling them, and then returning them to the sauce. Honestly, though, this part is simple no matter how you do it: chicken is so tender that it is easily crushed.
Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir in the sauce. Cook for the remaining 30 minutes.
Whip and serve
Take out the meaty chicken filling and place it on your burger buns
Serve hot and enjoy.
What to Serve with Shredded BBQ Chicken
Several excellent examples include traditional picnic meals like coleslaw, fruit salad, corn on the cob, potato chips, broccoli salad, and more. You really can’t go wrong with the side dishes for this simple meal because even chips or fresh fruit can be a great compliment.
What type of BBQ sauce should I use?
You can use any bottled barbecue sauce of your choice, but I personally prefer a sauce that has a good bold and spicy taste. Keep in mind that any sauce you use will greatly affect the final results. A good walnut smoke or a mixture of brown sugar with honey are also quite popular flavor choices.
Should you let the chicken cool before crushing it?
Yes, at least for a minute or two. If you crush the chicken while it’s still practically boiling hot, you run the risk of burning with the juice meat splashing while crushing it. Give it a moment to cool enough so you don’t get hurt, and then crush the chicken. Hot chicken is crushed very well, but cold chicken is difficult to crush, so make sure you don’t let it sit for too long.
Can you put frozen chicken in the cooking pot?
Yes, you can use frozen chicken, although it may take a little longer to cook, and the end results may be a little waterier from the ice on the thawing chicken. But once you crush the chicken, everything should be mixed well.
How is chicken pulled
A simple way to do this is to remove the cooked chicken from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. With two forks, start pulling the chicken in opposite directions until it crumbles under its fork. Continue working on it until the chicken has been completely shredded, and then place it back in the slow cooker.
