Autumn has arrived, and with the season comes a lot of autumn festive foods. My favorite? Tasty slow-cooking pumpkin recipes, of course. When I think of the fall meal, images of juicy Honeycrisp apples, perfectly roasted pumpkin, and decadent apple pies come to mind, but the real star ingredient of autumn is (hands down!) pumpkin.
When it comes to cooking and baking, pumpkins are actually much more versatile than you think. The most classic way to serve the unofficial fall mascot is on a sweet pumpkin pie or pumpkin bread with chocolate chips, but you can also use the tastier side of pumpkin by incorporating it into chili peppers, soups, sauces, and more. Plus, you can use pumpkin in easy and tasty breakfast dishes like oatmeal and pancakes to start the day on a seasonally appropriate note.
You can even make your own Pumpkin Spiced Lattes at home, sorry, Starbucks! When it comes to pumpkin dishes, the possibilities are truly endless.
If you wish, you can even cook a whole pumpkin in your slow cooker and use pumpkin “meat” for a variety of recipes. Use it as a base for a sweet puree for your cakes, or add a tablespoon to a creamy curry recipe for the best burst of pumpkin flavor. Using your slow cooker to perfect your pumpkin dishes is a great fresh alternative to buying canned pumpkin at the grocery store.
