trip cancellation and interruption insurance

Trip cancellation and interruption insurance provides reimbursement in the event of a covered loss that prevents you from traveling before, en route to, or after your trip departs. postponed trips may also be eligible for reimbursement. your trip must be less than 60 days to qualify.

coverage amount. there is a maximum coverage amount of $10,000 per covered person or $20,000 per trip. per 12-month period, you can submit claims for up to $40,000 total.

What’s covered. Trip cancellation and interruption insurance tends to reimburse you for situations beyond your control, although exemptions apply. While this list does not cover every possible scenario, Chase provides the following examples as reasons covered:

baggage delay insurance

When your baggage is delayed or misplaced for more than six hours when traveling via a common carrier, you are eligible for reimbursement for certain emergency personal items.

coverage amount. there is a maximum coverage amount of up to $100 per day, up to five days total.

What’s Covered. Baggage delay insurance covers the purchase of emergency personal items, including but not limited to clothing, toiletries, and a cell phone charging cable.

refund for travel delay

If your common carrier delays your trip by more than six hours or requires an overnight stay, the travel delay reimbursement policy can help pay for these expenses. the trip must take place outside the city of residence of the cardholder and have a duration of less than 365 days. this coverage applies to the cardholder, the cardholder’s spouse or domestic partner, and dependent children under the age of 22.

coverage amount. You will receive up to $500 for each ticket purchased, and coverage is limited to one covered risk per trip.

what is covered. any reasonable additional expenses resulting from travel delay, such as meals, lodging, toiletries, medications, and any other personal expenses.

reimbursement for lost luggage

Missing Baggage Reimbursement provides compensation for any costs incurred to repair or replace any lost, damaged, or stolen checked and carry-on baggage (and the personal items inside these bags) on a common carrier during a covered trip.

coverage amount. You can receive up to $3,000 per insured person per covered trip.

what’s covered. any lost, damaged or stolen property in your baggage may qualify for lost baggage reimbursement. Please note that jewelry, watches and electronics are included in the maximum benefit amount of $3,000, and you can receive up to $500 per insured person per covered trip in these expenses.

travel accident insurance

chase offers two types of travel accident insurance: public transportation travel accident insurance and 24-hour travel accident insurance. both policies cover accidental death, dismemberment, or combined loss of speech, sight, or hearing as a result of a covered trip.

coverage amount. You can receive up to $1 million with public transportation travel accident insurance and up to $100,000 with 24-hour travel accident insurance. If more than one eligible person is injured, the reimbursement amount will be divided proportionately among the covered persons.

What is covered. Public transportation travel accident insurance covers incidents when entering, exiting, or traveling as a passenger on public transportation. instead, 24-hour travel accident insurance covers the beginning of the scheduled departure date and ends on the printed return date.

evacuation and emergency transport

If you are injured or become ill during your trip and require an emergency evacuation, you are eligible to receive reimbursement for medical and transportation services provided. the trip must last between five and 60 days and must be 100 miles or more from your residence.

coverage amount. You can receive up to $100,000 for yourself, your spouse, or eligible children under the age of 19 (and full-time students at an accredited college if under 25).

What is covered. You may receive compensation for transportation and medical services and supplies necessary for your emergency evacuation. transportation may include air and ground ambulances and private motor vehicles.

emergency medical and dental benefit

You may be reimbursed for any emergency medical expenses for any accidental illness or injury during a covered trip that is not covered by your health insurance. This benefit is a complementary coverage to the cardholder’s medical insurance. the covered trip must last between five and 60 days, and you must be more than 100 miles from your home.

Coverage amount. This benefit is subject to a $50 deductible, but can reimburse you up to $2,500 in total. You can also receive $75 per day for hotel convalescence for up to five days if your doctor deems it medically necessary.

What is covered. The following medical expenses are eligible for reimbursement through the chase emergency medical and dental benefit:

While these emergency assistance services are free, cardholders are fully responsible for medical, legal, transportation, and any other services or goods provided.

runner-up card

if you’re looking for the same comprehensive travel protections that come with the chase sapphire reserve® card but don’t want to pay $550 a year, consider the chase sapphire preferen® card instead. You’ll get the same travel protections with the latter, but at a lower annual rate of $95. The only exception is travel accident insurance, which comes with a lower coverage amount: $500,000 instead of $1 million.
